U.S. airline regulators have ordered inspections on engine fan blades like the one that snapped off a Southwest Airlines plane, leading to the death of a woman who was partially blown out a window.
Airlines clearly need to ‘stick to their knitting’ and focus on what’s truly important, as the recent tragic engine explosion that killed a Southwest passenger shows. Nonetheless, the lure of lower costs and cramming in ever more passengers seems irresistible to airlines and the manufacturers anxious to cater to them.
